Vitamin A (Beta Carotene)
Beta-carotene converts to Vitamin A in our bodies.
Vitamin A serves several biological functions including involvement in the synthesis of certain glycoproteins. Vitamin A deficiency leads to abnormal bone development, disorders of the reproductive system, xerophthalmia (a drying condition of the cornea of the eye).
Vitamin A is essential for proper growth, eyesight and reproduction, and the immune system. MaxiVision Vitamin A is alpha combined in correct proportions with gamma to produce the beta in our formulas.
Acetyl-l-Carnitine
Certain nutrients have also undergone examination for their role in promoting brain health in older adults. One of the most extensively researched nutrients for its role in promoting brain wellness is Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR). ALCAR has demonstrated marked positive effects on brain aging, both from a preventive and therapeutic standpoint. ALCAR is the O-acetylated form of the fatty acyl ester L-carnitine. ALCAR benefits mitochondrial efficiency and functions as an antioxidant within the mitochondria, helping neurons maintain maximal energy levels. ALCAR increases acetylcholine levels in the brain, one of the main neurotransmitters needed for learning and memory. Declining ALCAR levels may in fact be one of the causes of the cognitive decline seen with aging.
Alpha Lipoic Acid
This is a vitamin-like antioxidant which is sometimes called the Universal Antioxidant because it is soluble in both fat and water. Alpha lipoic acid is used in diabetes and glaucoma. Alpha lipoic acid functions as a critical cofactor in several important enzymes related to energy metabolism.
